Hi,
Today's episode (11) is all about understanding how delaying gratifications can actually enhance your present moments by transcence. It is sort of a paradoxical thought at first, but upon practice, you really gain an understanding of how this can work for you.
I always think that it isn't the big things that we do in life, it is really all the little things, all those moments in between the big events, that are really of measure of who and what you are.
In our lives, we have births, graduations, engagements, weddings, holidays, deaths and other significant events, but when you think about the fact that there are 1440 minutes in a day, that's over 10000 minutes a week, and over 52000 minutes in a year - how are you spending all that time!? Not engaging in these monumentous occasions, that is for sure.
These minutes are spent working, cleaning, waiting in lines, grocery shopping, gardening, driving, exercising.
And if you are just waiting for those moments to pass to get to the big events, you are missing out on a huge opportunity to love the life you are living. To live each moment as if it were the last. To embrace and engage yourself in all that you do.
“We are always getting ready to live but never living.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
This quote was the inspriation for episode 11 - and the take away message is that you really want to evaluate your moments that you spend thinking about how things will be in the future when you decide to take action, or what you will do when you get around to it. Procrastination is not a tool of self-improvement.
Embrace each moment and live for today - but paradoxically do not engage in all the tempting behaviours that will have you straying from the path toward your goals. It is a fine balance between living for the moment and living for the future.
Keep those goals close to your heart and your mind, and make some positive decisions today to get you closer to living each moment the way you want!
